I love owls (feel free to blame Harry Potter) and have since I did a report on a little burrowing owl in 5th grade. I mean, how cool would it be to have a tiny owl as a pet?
There are quite a few free owl patterns available on ravelry. I love both the owl softies and hats as well as the adorable little owl cable motif.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the legs in the pattern. Owls have legs, but when you think about them sitting on a branch they’re more of just a body, head and wings. I decided to omit the legs, and create my own wing pattern instead.
Wing Pattern (make 2):
Using the size G hook
Row 1: hdc in 3rd from hook, hdc in each st to end. (13)
Row 2: ch 2 and turn; hdc in same st, hdc in next 10 sts, skip last st. (13)
Row 3: ch 2 and turn; skip next st, hdc in each to end, 2 hdc in end st. (13)
Row 4: repeat row 2. (13)
Row 5: repeat row 3. (13)
Row 6: ch 2 and turn; hdc in each to end, bind off. (13)
If this makes any sense at all, you should end up with a sort of parallelogram. I left a long tail at the end to use to sew the wing onto the body.
Mackathanial absolutely loves these little guys, I hope the Twincesses love them too!
