I love me a good pair of yoga pants.  Who doesn’t?  However, earlier this year I promised myself I would make more of an effort to look nice each day.  For my kids, my husband, and mostly, for myself.  I have a better day on the days I make an effort to fix my hair and makeup.  Yet, I still found myself falling into the routine of yoga pants and an old tee nearly every day.

Part of the reason it was so easy to wear my “comfy clothes” was because my closet recently went through a purge (inspired by reading this book*), and after getting rid of everything I didn’t absolutely love, I was left with little more than yoga pants and comfy old tees 😉

So new clothes were in order, and Lauren provided the perfect platform with her Momiform MAKEover series.  (Hasn’t it been fun to follow? So many cute, new clothes to admire and try to replicate!)

Let’s start off with a new tunic.  Still comfy, and so much more classy than the tees I have hanging around from high school.

Pattern: Layer Me Up Tee by Patterns for Pirates

Fabric: Awesome thrift store find, $1 for about 2 yards

Size: Large

I made one small change to the pattern, and raised the neckline about an inch.  This shirt was a quick project, completed during a nap Nathan took.  When he woke up and I said, “how do you like my new shirt?” his response was, “it’s cute, where’d you get it?” My mother-in-law thought it was store bought as well, and when I told her I made it she practically yelled, “I need that pattern!”

So I have this green shirt with a cowl neck.  It survived the purge, because it’s seriously the most comfy shirt ever.  But I needed something new to wear over it, and this cardigan came to the rescue.

Pattern: Julia Women’s Cardigan by Mouse House Creations

Fabric: reversible knit (the other side is black, grey & white), walmart $2/yard

Size: Large

I need another one of these.  I love slouchy, draping cardigans but I can’t buy them at the store with long enough sleeves!  The sleeves on the Julia were perfect for me with no alterations.  I made this one without the doubled over collar, but the next one I make is going to have the doubled collar to make it even more cozy. (And eliminate the hemming, because lazy always wins)

And my boys’ favorite is definitely this one.

Pattern Otium Sweater* by Sofilantjes*

Fabric: deliciously soft french terry I managed to snag at Hobby Lobby for $9/yard (but I used a coupon so it was like $6). I want more but can’t find it online anywhere! Also a bit of knit from for the contrast bands.

This sweater gets me hugs and kisses from my sweet boys. It is oh so soft!

No alterations made for this one.  I made the large, and the fit is great, but I wouldn’t mind making one a size up in something really thick to take the snuggle factor to the max.  I can’t wait for the cold so I can actually wear this one for more than a few hours (darn 80 degree weather).

PS: The Otium looks amazing with a pair of yoga pants!
