Mack the Knife

This is the outfit I made for week 2 of Project Run and Play. I didn’t get it done quite in time to turn it in, unfortunately. The challenge for week 2 was to pick a fashion icon and create an outfit inspired by that icon. I picked Frank Sinatra. I absolutely love that “Rat Pack” look of men in suits!

I had saved a pair of Nathan’s wool dress pants (dry clean only) that I had accidentally washed. I used Dana’s Kid Pants tutorial to get a basic idea for the pants, and tapered them more at the top so they wouldn’t need any elastic. There is a small fly with just a button (It isn’t very pretty, so I’m glad the vest covers it!)
For the vest I took one of Mackathanial’s sweater vests and created my own pattern. The back of the vest is made from the silky material that was lining the top portion of Nathan’s pants. What a lucky find! The buttons on the vest are the buttons from the pants. I was thrilled that I was able to use so much from those dress pants.
The shirt is one he already had, I’m not quite ready to tackle making a white shirt.
I used the Skinny Tie Tutorial on See Kate Sew, for the tie. I just happened to have a bit of black cotton laying around.

We’re going to get him some black shoes soon. He only has brown church shoes and you just can’t put brown shoes on with this outfit.

He wasn’t very happy for most of the shoot. It was kind of cold outside, and he just really needed a nap.

Much happier sitting in the chair with mom blowing raspberries at him.

“Woah! Big noise!” (someone was driving their truck through the complex)

“Come on! Let’s go back inside!”
