The DELILAH top is a fun beginner knit top with half sleeves or short sleeves built in. The arm and hip bands can be made in a contrasting fabric for more fun. The drop sleeves and roomy fit mean that it’s super comfortable! You can make a pretty bow or choose to add some flowers. Get ready to make a closet full of them! (And if your little girl wants to match mommy, you can make her the matching Dahlia top in her size.)
No kidding about wanting a closet full of them, this shirt is seriously comfortable!
For my Delilah I used an extremely lightweight knit. It’s absolutely perfect for a summer top, especially since we don’t have air conditioning. And I imagine it will be very nice in the colder months to layer with a shrug.
I made the large size, based on my hip measurement and the fact that I generally wear a large. I didn’t take into account all the weight I lost after having Baden. When I make another I will probably try a medium. However, I love the fit of the shirt in the large as well. It’s like getting to wear a comfy, baggy t-shirt and looking super cute rolled into one!
I love the way this shirt finishes. I absolutely hate hems, and am not a big fan of top stitching on knits, so the banded style is a huge plus to this pattern! I only had to top stitch around the collar.
As someone who doesn’t have a ton of time to sew, this is definitely a great pattern. I cut the shirt out right before nap time and had the shirt completed (including a bathroom selfie to my best friend for approval– which she gave enthusiastically) before Mack was up. YAY for dolman sleeves!
This shirt is not the first thing I have sewn for myself, but it is the first thing I have sewn and loved. My husband seriously thought I had purchased the shirt at first. He really loves it as well. I love that I have a shirt that is comfy enough to wear for everyday stuff and classy enough to wear for an evening out with the hubby. Just add flats! Literally, since my cute necklace is actually a silicone teething necklace I wear for Baden.
Next time I will have to add on one of the cute embellishment options. There is a bow, as well as a flower. I saw that Amy made her flower removable, which is an awesome idea. I might have to steal it.
I get super awkward when having my picture taken, so here’s a silly one to finish out the post.
