Do you remember this darling post from last month? Jess is back with another phenomenal look for Villains month!
Hello all! My name is Jess and I blog, and design patterns, at Gracious Threads. I am so happy to be here today as part of Crafting Con!
I grew up on tales of the Wild West, and when I had the chance to sign up for villain month, I jumped on it! Some of my favourite stories involved women of the west: courageous, independent, and unwilling to let anyone stop them.
Calamity Jane was one of these women. While perhaps not technically a villain, she stayed on the side of the law when it was convenient, and when it wasn’t, well, she did her own thing!
She also had a bit of a reputation of ‘borrowing’ cattle when it pleased her.
She was quick with the gun and quicker with her temper! (ok, so my daughter spent the whole photo shoot grinning…she likes her new clothes!)
Some details about the garments:
The shirt is done with a poly cotton blend shirting. I used the Lumberjack Shirt from Patterns for Pirates. The pointed back yoke and front pocket flaps are self drafted. I love the pearl snaps, they give such a nice touch! I cut a size 5, but probably should have gone down a size for my slim daughter. The pants are the Small Fry Jeans by Titchy Threads. I used my own method for the fly insertion, and added some decorative topstitching to the pockets, but otherwise they are as drafted. For the vest I used the School Boy Vest from Sew Much Ado. It is fully lined, and reversible as well. Finally, I self drafted the chaps. I used a polyester suede look fabric. I had hoped to add a fringe to the side, but the material frayed like crazy.
What I like about this costume is that it can also be used for regular wear: the shirt and the pants are perfect for playing outside and for school!
